Mendocino Coast Accommodations

Experience The Ranch

The land around us is stunning and timeless. Our modern inn sits upon the foundation of an old farmhouse, built over 150 years ago. The town of Newport once was a bustling logging community in the mid 1800s, but was abandoned when the industry left the area.
In the present day, we are a bespoke ranch, highlighting the best the Mendocino Coast has to offer with artistic architecture, luxury accommodations, and an amazing culinary program all reflecting an unmatched natural setting on the Northern California Coast.
The Newport Ranch encompasses over 2,200 acres; is a working cattle ranch, a private timber preserve as well as a luxury inn. The ranch maintains over 25 miles of trails for guest use that traverse over 7 distinct microclimates, natural and cultural resources, providing a private natural setting like no other.

  • We are an extensive ranch that invests in the health and conservation of our extraordinary woodlands and diverse microclimates. We recognize and respect the responsibility we shoulder as stewards of this land.
  • We engage in active partnerships with the Redwood Forest Foundation, Save the Redwoods League, Mendocino Land Trust, and Noyo Center for Marine Science. We also work with the Mendocino County Department of Education to bring school children to the ranch.
  • We have established extensive garden programs utilized by our kitchen, innkeepers, and our beverage program.

Natural Design

The architecture at The Inn at Newport Ranch reflects and utilizes locally sourced stone, wood, and glass. We want our guests to feel part of the landscape in our artistic hand crafted buildings. Much of the material used in creating and building the ranch were reclaimed from the property, including extensive old-growth redwoods and one-ton boulders that combine form and function to create warm and inviting spaces. The result is organic architecture that celebrates the elegance of natural simplicity.

All in One Place

Coastal Meadows

Take a stroll through our rolling coastal meadows and you might come across great blue herons, California quail, and hawks. And depending on the season, you might even spot a migrating pod of whales as you climb the bluffs.

Ridgeline

As you hike up our rocky ridgeline, the elevation changes and you’ll experience an arid change in climate. Keep an eye out for the diverse array of animals and plants that thrive along the ridge’s peak.

Redwood Forest

Soaring to imposing heights, our resident redwoods are a crucial part of the Ranch’s ecosystem. As the marine layer drifts over our ridgeline, the giant trees collect hundreds of gallons of water, which makes its way to the plants below the canopy.
